A new star is born in profiling with the launch of the FICEP Gemini 254 G

A new star is born in profiling with the launch of the FICEP Gemini 254 G

The launch of the Gemini by FICEP has created the world's most technologically advanced, multi-function and flexible system for profile cutting, drilling, machining and scribing with an integral bevelling capability and an advanced material cutting capability using either HT2000 and HPR260 Hypertherm plasma Systems.

This compact footprint machine can produce flat metal parts from plate, 5mm up to 75mm thick in one set-up, far more economically but with the same or greater accuracy than using much more expensive, separate cutting and labour - intensive machining centres. The Gemini can be fitted with a wide variety of devices to suit the customer's needs which can significantly reduce fabrication time and manpower requirements.

FICEP has created a new era in profiling with the Gemini which is now the complete plate working solution for small to medium sized fabricators and OEM’s of all sizes who are looking to increase productivity reduce production costs and save on labour.

The Newton Group, based in Prestwick, Ayrshire

The Newton Group, based in Prestwick, Ayrshire, has been a long standing customer of Ficep for 10 years and has been operating an older Ficep 1224DD drill saw; however it recognised the need to increase productivity and reduce production costs to benefit its customer base. With that objective in mind, a decision was made to buy a Ficep Orient 11 drilling & sawing line, and an RB1500 4 turbine shot blast machine.

The company has a turnover exceeding £15m and continues to invest in the equipment and the technology needed for leading edge design, manufacturing and customer care management. The company commenced trading in 1922 and is involved with the erection and cladding of steel framed buildings in addition to the manufacture of Structural Steelwork. Some of the key markets in which the company operates now include - commercial and retail developments, new build and refurbished housing, oil, petrochemical & pharmaceutical industries and education & private/public partnership.

The high performance Ficep machines have now been integrated into an impressive new production facility next to the Prestwick International Airport. The total investment in machinery alone exceeded £500,000 and will now give the company the option to significantly increase its capability for customers throughout the country. The two new machines are laid out in line to afford an easy flow of material through both systems. Newton also continues to process and produce fittings with a Ficep A152 angle line that was purchased three years go.

Andy Boylan, Works Manager of the Newton Group says: 'We have been delighted with the performance of the existing machines and service we have received from Ficep. It was only logical that when the time came to invest in new manufacturing machinery that Ficep was the front runner. This investment and other measures we have taken have now increased our capacity to produce more than 200 tons per week with the existing and new plant working together in line.'

A New Generation of Large Plate Processing Machinery
A New Generation of Large Plate Processing Machinery The Tipo G Series of Plate Processing Systems address the needs of such industries as bridge/structural steel fabricators and manufacturing firms producing large plate components such as tube sheets. These systems are available in widths of, 4mtr and 6 mtr. and are ideally suited for long components or stack drilling. The systems can be provided with one or two spindles each with an automatic tool changer to accomplish different holes sizes or the automatic exchange of tools once the tool that is being utilized becomes dull. The large capacity drilling heads can perform milling, Countersinking, counter boring and edge prep processes. The facility to move the drill head in the X axis allows certain patterns of holes to be made without the need to move the heavy duty gantry. Due to the fast drilling speeds and high productivity Ficep have designed an automatic chip removal system to cope with efficient cleaning of the working area. Lubrication can be either flood cooling for heavy applications or mist type for general applications.

Ficep Develop First 4 mtr Drilling Line for Bridge Fabrication
Ficep Develop First 4 mtr Drilling Line for Bridge Fabrication Ficep received an order for the worlds first 4 mtr drilling line for a large Brazilian customer involved in Bridge Fabrication. Ficep are no strangers to large drilling and sawing equipment and this machine adds to the extensive range of equipment for all the worlds leading fabricators. The huge machine employs 4 separate drilling heads with the very latest high power spindle technology capable of running upto 3000 RPM to take advantage of the latest carbide drilling tool technology,. The system is enhanced by a further axis movement in the drill heads to eliminate the need to constantly move the heavy beam backwards and forwards when producing close patterns of holes. With bridge fabrication the need to process cambered beams is also a prerequisite, The equipment is manufactured with this in mind and as with all Ficep equipment is made to enable very tight tolerance even on the largest cambered beams. This equipment compliments the Tipo G equipment for the very large fabricator.
