New FICEP Endeavour and Gemini machines increase capability and capacity at Billington Structures

Billington Structures is one of the UK's leading and most successful structural steelwork contractors that has increased its turnover since 2004 by 43% to £55m and this year it is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Billington Structures fabricate and weld steel at two of their production facilities at Barnsley and Bristol ensuring they are able to deliver steel to a wider geographic area and work even more efficiently to service its clients throughout the UK and Europe. In fact Billington Structures were the first Steelwork Contractor to CE Mark a primary steelwork frame in the UK.

The company's experienced and highly skilled workforce can undertake projects from simple building frames to the most complex structures in excess of 6,000 tonnes and the three plants have the capability to process 25,000 tonnes of steel per annum.

Until recently Billington Structures had 4 FICEP machines operating in their 3 production facilities but the recent purchase of the new Endeavour CNC Drilling, Milling & Scribing Line for Beams and the Gemini CNC Plate Machining System now brings the total up to 6.

The company has and is, undertaking work in a wide range of industry sectors including healthcare, Industrial, infrastructure, leisure, residential, retail, defence, education, distribution, energy, data centres and airports.

Many of these projects have been undertaken internationally such as a series of full, turnkey, contracts that were undertaken in Iraq, the first being in the Kurdish city of Erbil.

Some projects of note in the UK have included IKEA warehouses ( requiring 6000 tons of steel ) and the Xscape indoor ski slope complex at Castleford both with Shepherd Construction, the rebuilding of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford upon Avon with MACE, military living accommodation modules on Project Slam with Bovis, Drax Power Station and numerous projects at Heathrow, Manchester and Robin Hood Airports with a variety of contractors which involving Domestic Arrivals areas and terminal baggage handling facilities.

The company has also won numerous awards including the prestigious Structural Steel Design Award Winner for the Derby Arena in 2015.

At Billington Structures Ltd we currently have six FICEP machines in production across three facilities. The two recently installed and commissioned Endeavour and Gemini machines have increased our level of capabilities and capacity at our Shafton site near Barnsley. These machines provide our in house requirements but also provide a service for our many customers throughout the UK. The professionalism and engineering support both during and after installation has meant both these new machines were in full operation before programme
