Partnership in Profile: Ficep and JAESPA

For our fifth Partnership in Profile feature, UK Sales Manager Chris Berriman looks at Ficep's partnership with JAESPA.

As a competent partner in metal band saws for processing steel, amongst other materials, JAESPA was the obvious choice for us to link up with in band sawing equipment. We have worked with the German-based business for many years and officially worked in partnership with them since 2018, having seen the need to introduce a high-end reliable band sawing machine for fabrication shops in the UK.

A brief history

A global manufacturer of band saw machines for many applications, JAESPA was founded in 1957 as a small team of specialists producing vertical and horizontal band saw machines with a large focus on the steel processing sector. Today, JAESPA operates from its 3,500 m2 production facility in Spangenberg, Germany, manufacturing quality bandsaws that can be used to cut a wide variety of products.

The JAESPA product range

JAESPA is one of the market leaders in band saw technology providing solutions for a number of industry sectors, including steel, energy technology, shipbuilding, automotive, rail and aerospace. JAESPA invests in significant research and development to provide technology for efficient sawing of steel, aluminium, graphite, quartz glass, silicon and ceramics, among other materials and are heavy duty with strong frame design, which reduces vibration when sawing and in turn helps reduce material wastage. Strong machines mean less downtime, result in longer blade life and super quality cutting.

JAESPA’s high quality, robust sawing lines include fully automatic systems and semi-automatic sawing lines for small to medium size sections. The business has an extensive product range of vertical and horizontal bandsaws, including 60 models featuring vertical band saws for cut-off widths up to 2000mm and horizontal machines with capacity up to 1300mm. JAESPA has acquired a reputable name in applications for specialist requirements. For Ficep customers the JAESPA range also includes mitre cutting band saws for horizontal, vertical and double mitre cutting.

The company manufactures more than 200 machines, yearly. The machines weigh between 400 kgs and 8 tons depending on the application and selected saw type. A large portion of production is exported. However, most of the machines are sold to European domestic customers. An example for an especially huge model is the H-AS 2000 applied for the cutting of cumbersome parts up to 2000 x 2000 mm. This kind of saw has been ordered for retreating items used in nuclear power plants.

The smallest JAESPA band saw is the Concept 250 GT, a solid machine for mitre cuts to both sides with turntable and cast-iron blade guide arms. The production range has been extended during the last months, especially mitre cutting saws, to meet demand.

Beside the conventional vertical mitre cutting saw of our Classic series, four new models have been designed in a horizontal version. Also, for smaller material cross-sections a solid two-column band saw model Concept 330/500 PG is now available.

The large two-column saws of the SG-line are equipped with extreme tilting saw frame for the economic cutting of profiles with approx. 8° tilt (or more).

Also the new Compact 3.8 model – the „Automat“ - introduced a jump in development. The automatically operating Compact 3.8 utilises two servo drives with ball screws for saw material feed accuracy, equipped with NC control and 7” coloured touch screen as well as fully hydraulic blade tension.

Chris Berriman says, “There is a growing need in the UK for this high-quality, cost-efficient band saw product range. JAESPA’s equipment is strong and heavy duty which means that there is less vibration which gives a better blade life which ultimately saves customers money. JAESPA is a quality brand which we are confident gives our customers the result they require.”

World presence

JAESPA band saw machines are presented worldwide, on all five Continents. Amongst the most recent sales were sales to several passenger car manufacturing plants and steel mills in Europe, helping to grow and expand business whilst performing better and faster in achieving customers’ objectives.
